1862 - 2016: a Short Summary of 154 Years of History at the Hotel Waldschlößl
In 1862, the Bavarian king granted a licence to sell alcohol, known as the Schankrecht.
- “The beginning of the Bavarian hospitality tradition at Waldschlößl.”
- Anton Aschenbrenner constructed a new building between Hohenwarth and Neukirchen.
- The convenient location was perfect for an inn.
- Everyone who was involved with the construction agreed, “The house is so beautiful, just like a little castle (Schlößl) in the forest (Wald).”
- The Waldschlößl was born.
1923
- The first overnight guests came to Höllhöhe and spent their summer holidays here. A dance hall was built and named Salettl.
1956
- A new building was constructed at the Waldschlößl farm and inn by Anton Aschenbrenner.
- Running hot and cold water, showers on each floor and central heating were now standard.
1974
- The Waldschlößl was handed over to Ludwig Aschenbrenner.
1976
- Sepp and Marianne Maurer took over the Waldschlößl and developed the hotel so it became a 2 star premises within the space of a few years.
- Rooms were refurbished, parking spaces created and the building’s facades were renovated.
1978
- The former dance hall was refurbished and the kitchen was modernised.
1985
- The beer garden was painstakingly and meticulously constructed from local slate.
1986
- Construction of the hotel’s own crazy golf course.
1988
- Complete refurbishment of the restaurant and reception area.
1989
- Construction of the guest house with 20 modern double rooms.
1995
- Construction of the hotel’s own chapel and the fish pond with fishing huts.
2000
- Construction of several beauty treatment rooms.
2001
- Construction of the new hotel lobby with a spacious reception area and new toilet facilities.
2002
- Construction of the 1,200 m² fitness and wellness area.
- The largest hotel-owned fitness studio in Bavaria with state of the art equipment for fitness and high-performance sports.
- Wellness area with 3 saunas, salt cavern, massage showers, jacuzzi, relaxation room.
2002
- Construction of an underground corridor to connect all of the buildings, which resulted in the hotel receiving 3 star superior standard status.
2005
- Construction of a new wellness building with water beds, stone shower, relaxation zones and outdoor area.
2005
- Construction of the legendary Freiheit cocktail bar.
2009
- Refurbishment of the fitness studio for the Sports School with performance diagnostics and computer-aided training equipment.
2009
- Extension to accommodate a physiotherapy practice.
2012
- Construction of the altitude chamber. Athletes could then train up to an altitude of 6,500 metres.
2016
The largest renovation projects to date are in the pipeline
- Hotel extension – indoor swimming pool – refurbishment taking the wellness resort up to 4 star standard.
- 10 new hotel rooms and 4 dream suites will be created.
- 2 new restaurants will be built with an open air lounge.
- Construction of a hotel lift and a panoramic indoor swimming pool.
- Construction of a large open air lounge and 2 new panoramic relaxation rooms.
- Construction of a rehabilitation centre with a team of qualified doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, sports scientists and fitness trainers.
- Development of the training area to over 800 m², construction of a boxing ring, climbing wall and functional training area.
